Paper Eskimo and Opportunity Village Enter Into Fine Arts Collaboration

When Paper Eskimo first came into contact with the amazing organization that is Opportunity Village in Las Vegas, Nevada they immediately felt a connection as Joanna Palmer of Paper Eskimo and Linda Smith of Opportunity Village began discussing their work.

They discussed the mission of Opportunity Village, which is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving children and adults with intellectual disabilities by enhancing their lives and the lives of their families.

Opportunity Village runs a Fine Art Program which is designed to help participants discover and develop their artistic talents. The program teaches formal techniques and encourages students to express themselves through discovering and cultivating their creative spirit. Artists participating in the Fine Art Program have an opportunity to work on a wide range of media. They paint on canvas and wood, sculpt with polymer clay, and create glass mosaics. In the Fine Art Program, imagination is let off the leash and encouraged to run wild.

"It's clear what makes Opportunity Village such a unique and incredible organization - the people. You don't just see the smiles, you feel them. The sense of community and happiness is pervasive. Everywhere we looked we saw people learning and growing. And the most important thing of all, Opportunity Village is changing lives,"

Paper Eskimo spent a week learning about this program and discovering exactly how they could help Opportunity Village. They also spent time photographing and cataloging all of the residents’ work in preparation to make it available for online sales. Now, they are we are working on creating a retail line which will incorporate the beautiful artwork we saw at Opportunity Village.

Paper Eskimo will also be donating their beautiful, designer cupcake boxes which will be used to display the incredible art produced by the talented artists at Opportunity Village.

“It’s clear what makes Opportunity Village such a unique and incredible organization – the people. You don’t just see the smiles, you feel them. The sense of community and happiness is pervasive. “Visiting Opportunity Village truly was an experience of a lifetime. We hope to take the positivity, energy and enthusiasm of Opportunity Village and incorporate it not just into our daily lives, but our work as well. It makes us so excited to see what the future holds,” she later added.
